Cops submit to Taser pain

More than 300 Queensland police officers have voluntarily had Tasers used on them during extensive training sessions.

Male and female officers have put their hands up to be "zapped" by the 50,000V stun guns for between one and five seconds.

One officer who was stunned for three seconds during training said: "It's like being hit by an electric fence - but 100 times worse. But as soon as it's turned off it's all over."

He said he fell backwards to the ground after the impact, which hit him in a shoulder and hip.

The Taser can be held against someone or fired from a distance, with two wires coming out with barbed probes that can touch different parts of the body.

The officer said he volunteered because he felt he should know what it was like before he had to use a Taser on someone else.

"If you haven't experienced it how can you dish it out to people?" the officer said.
