Falling concrete just misses worker
A Darwin construction worker had a near brush with death after a concrete slab fell ten storeys and only missed him by metres.
The pre-cast slab is believed to have landed within two metres of the worker after falling from a crane above.
Electrical Trade Union organiser Trevor Gauld, who visited the site soon after the accident, said the worker was extremely lucky.
''This very nearly could have been another death in a workplace in the Territory,'' he said.
''Apparently, he just ran to the safety office.''
The accident occurred at 1.30pm on Monday on a construction site on the corner of The Esplanade and Daly Street.
NT WorkSafe is conducting an investigation.
Mr Gauld said he was surprised that an accident occurred on this site.
''From the sites that I've visited, the safety measures here are all some of the best,'' he said.
