Man loses arm in swinging hose horror
Gas plant workers have saved the life of a co-worker after a swinging hose severed his arm and left him with horrendous injuries.
The 47-year-old man was operating machinery at an isolated gas drilling plant at Teelba in southern Queensland yesterday afternoon when a high pressure valve released, the Courier-Mail reported.
The man was hit three times by a swinging hose which severed his arm, broke his leg and left him with serious head and back injuries.
Emergency services praised his co-workers who gave the man first aid.
"They managed to reduce blood loss straight away and stabilise him," an ambulance spokesman said.
"They stayed calm and treated him expertly without the help of doctors or paramedics. In such an isolated location it took a while for Charleville flying doctors to arrive and they've undoubtedly saved his life."
